I photographed a Bat Mitzvah last month, where the portion was B’resheit, the first chapter of the first book of the Five Books of Moses. This was my 10th Bar Mitzvah that I photographed.

Sam’s Bar Mitzvah

I had my first “repeat” customer last month! I shot Sam’s older brother’s Bar Mitzvah back in December 2008 (my second Bar Mitzvah), and the family asked me to photograph their special event again…

Extended Family Shoot

Recently went to a client’s house to shoot them and their extended family. The goal was to get some nice group shots of three generations in order to make prints to fill two large collage frames to give to the Grandparents for Christmas. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the shoot.

Washington Chapel Family Shoot

I usually do my Valley Forge shoots at the Memorial Arch, but I decided to try Washington Chapel for a shoot this weekend. I found lots of nice spots to get a variety of shots of this nice family.

Autumn Fading

November is here, which means there’s not much time left for the wonderful Fall colors…

Had a chance to shoot some good friends from college and their son in their backyard one late afternoon. We had just changed the clocks, so at 4:30 PM, the daylight was fading fast. I think the entire shoot was done in about 15 minutes, but we still managed to get some nice shots.

Valley Forge Family Shoot

Had a request from a client for “pictures of us sitting on a blanket surrounded by autumn leaves” I was happy to oblige! Found a great tree at Valley Forge National Park, right by the Memorial Arch. Although the weather was a bit warm for October, the pictures surely reflect the feeling of Fall!

One of the “models” got hungry in the middle of the shoot!

The park was quite busy!

Some really nice “open shade” on the opposite side of the Arch.

Building the Sukkah

The end of the summer and start of autumn is filled with lots of Jewish holidays, from the solemnity of Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur to the joy of Simchat Torah. In the middle is Sukkot. This past Sunday, Beth Chaim held a Sukkah Building/Decorating event. The weather was beautiful and the event was well attended.

Had the opportunity to shoot some informal engagment photos of my co-worker and his fiance at the arch at Valley Forge National Park. It was on a bright sunny day at 5 PM, so I did my best to find some nice shade and work the fill-flash to get the lighting right. I’m happy with how they turned out though!

Shot at 10mm to get the entire Arch in the shot.

Zack’s Bar Mitzvah

Had the opportunity to capture Zack’s special day earlier this month. This was my first time shooting on this Bimah with my new “strobist” lighting (camera flash with an umbrella on a lightstand) I think the pictures came out pretty well. I’ve used this lighting on a couple of weddings and portrait shoots, but the Bimah presents its own challenges, both in window lighting and space constraints.

I also did a few non-flash photos with my Sigma 30mm f/1.4
